Dell Resumes Axim Shipments

July 30, 2003

WASHINGTON, Jul 29, 2003 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- Users of Dell's Axim computers with Microsoft's Windows Mobile 2003 operating system will be able to download new firmware to fix performance problems.

Shipments of the hand-held computers have resumed after being halted two weeks ago because of the problem.

IDG News said Dell did not release a new version of the Axim with the June 23 launch of Windows Mobile 2003, but began selling the PDA with the new operating system that day.

Several users reported performance problems, such as poor load times for documents. The problems were traced to firmware developed by Dell to run with the new operating system.

The 28 megabyte file to fix the problem will be available beginning Wednesday at support.dell.com or, within two or three weeks, on CD ROM from Dell.
